The Epithelial Diaphragm

This diagram depicts the morphology of the epithelial diaphragm and a developing root of a tooth. Part of the root and diaphragm have been cut away in a sagittal fashion to replicate the appearance of these structures in the preceding histological images. The epithelial diaphragm will grow inward narrowing the root canal until it approaches the diameter of the future apical foramen is established. The epithelial rests are the remnants of the epithelial root sheath that breaks down to allow the establishment of the cementum layer on the root-portion of the dentin of the tooth.
