Roots of a Mandibular Molar

This is a section through both roots of a mandibular molar. The roots are still growing. Note the epithelial root sheath has been divided into two, one for each root. As the cone-shaped sheaths grow inferiorly, they taper inward. The terminal aspects of each sheath exhibits a centrally-directed lip (tilting inward) - the epithelial diaphragm (A). This diaphragm encircles an opening which is destined to become the apical foramen (B).
