Hazardous Waste Management Training

 

Training

To generate and manage hazardous waste at UK requires training to perform the associated duties in a way that ensures safe and compliant operations. Such training can be accomplished through any of three options: (1) classroom instruction, (2) live on-line or (3) recorded on-line training.  Whichever mode of training is selected, the verification of the participant’s knowledge of the material provided in the training is provided through the successful completion of an on-line quiz.

 

Initial Training:        

Training using either of the three options described below must be completed within six months after the date of assignment to the position requiring management of hazardous waste. Work in unsupervised positions is not allowed until the successful completion of the training and subsequent verification as outlined below. 
Annual Training:        

Annual hazardous waste management refresher training is required on successive years after the initial training using either of the three options described below.  Annual training is required as long as assigned job responsibilities include the management of hazardous waste.

 

Training Options

          

OPTION 1: Classroom Training

At present no live classroom instruction is being offered.  At such time as conditions warrant, consult this page for scheduling availability.

 

OPTION 2: Live On-Line Training

Live on-line training opportunities are provided on a regular basis.   This training will meet both the initial training requirement and the annual training requirement.


Once this training is completed, you will be ready to take the on-line quiz at the link provided in the section below entitled Training Verification. As you are preparing to take the quiz, you can also review the Hazardous Waste Management Basics Manual.

 

OPTION 3: Self-Paced On-Line Training

If live classroom or live on-line training dates are not available or convenient, there is an option to review, at your own pace, the training resource entitled, What You Need to Know.

Once this training is completed, you will be ready to take the on-line training verification quiz at the link provided in the section below entitled Training Verification.  As you are preparing to take the quiz you can also consult the printed Hazardous Waste Management Basics Manual.

 

Training Reference Resource

The Hazardous Waste Management Basics Manual is the primary printed resource available to all in the UK community that are responsible for the generation and management of hazardous waste whether in a research or teaching laboratory or an operations-based location.  As such the document may be used in preparation for taking the requisite training verification quiz.  In addition, the document also may serve as a helpful reference to consult during daily operations.

 

Training Verification Quiz

Successfully passing the hazardous waste on-line untimed quiz is necessary for all faculty, staff and students that have any role in the management of hazardous waste.  It must be taken within six months after the date of assignment to the position requiring management of hazardous waste and then re-taken on an annual basis thereafter for as long as that role continues.

Passing the quiz is automatically registered as proof of the required training and it allows access to UK’s web-based waste pick-up request system E-Trax. The quiz consists of approximately 10-15 multiple-choice questions, taking approximately 30 minutes to complete. As stated previously these are untimed quizzes.
