Greenhouse Gas Emissions

UK is required to report greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to comply with Title V of the Clean Air Act (CAA) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Mandatory Greenhouse Gas Reporting regulations that were developed to comply with the CAA. These regulations establish requirements for the monitoring, calculating, and reporting requirements for combustible sources. At UK, we report on 38 natural gas-fired boilers, 10 natural gas/fuel oil-fired boilers, and four coal-fired boilers.   

Under the directive of UK President Dr. Eli Capilouto, the President’s Sustainability Advisory Committee developed a GHG Emissions Reduction Plan to reduce campus emissions to 25 percent below 2010 levels by 2025.  Read more about UK’s emissions, emission reduction strategies, and how UK complies with regulatory requirements below.

Environmental Management contributes to the GHG Emissions Reduction Plan; however, the UK Sustainability Office has responsibility for the development and management of the plan.
