About three-quarters of the wells drilled in the uplands of central Adair County yield enough water for a domestic supply; some wells penetrating large solution openings in karst areas yield greater than 50 gallons per minute. In the rest of the county, very few wells yield enough water for a domestic supply, except in a few areas bordering streams. Numerous small springs and seeps are found throughout the county. Most discharge from small solution openings and joints in limestone or siltstone supported by shale layers. Flows are as much as 100 gallons per minute, but most have low flows of less than 1 gallon per minute. |
