Section of Foliate Papillae
This is a section through three foliate papillae on the tongue of a rabbit. Skeletal muscle fibers (A) extend from the muscular layer below, up into the center of each papilla, where it inserts into the lamina propria of their connective tissue core. Taste buds (B) are also present in the mucosa of their lateral aspects.
