Development of Periodontal Region

Identify the following: the perio-dontal region (A), epithelial rests (B), primary cementum (C), and dentin (D). Note the horizontal striations in the band of cementum. The lighter regions are collagen fibers running perpendicular to the surface of the cementum or Sharpey's fibers (E), produced chiefly by fibroblasts of the PDL. One end of this fiber is embedded in the cementum, and the other becomes a portion of the developing principal fiber bundles (F) of the PDL.
