(17 of 40) Initiation of Enamel Secretion This bell stage exhibits a broken strand of dental lamina passing from the dental organ to the oral epithelium (A). It is during the bell stage that the dental lamina begins to disintegrate. The oldest IDE cells are now in the formative or secretory stage. Enamel (B) is being secreted over the dentin. Note that in the region of the developing cusp, the stellate reticulum (C) begins to thin. The older IDE cells are now engaged in the organizing stage, the younger IDE cells are involved in the morphogenic stage.
