University Relations is responsible for building partnerships and fostering relationships between the university and the many communities it serves, including governments, media, alumni and other individual friends of the university. The office has the primary responsibility for both internal and external communications and management of issues relating to the university as a whole.

The departments and responsibilities within the University Relations group include public relations, strategic communications, marketing and brand strategy, government relations, and WUKY public radio.

Thomas W. Harris is the vice president for university relations at the University of Kentucky, a role in which he has served since 2002. Prior to leading University Relations at UK, Harris worked in corporate communications for Honda of America and Toyota Manufacturing. A 1985 graduate of UK, Harris is active in the Lexington community, having participated in both Leadership Lexington and Leadership Kentucky, is a life member of the UK Alumni Association and is on the board of Commerce Lexington Bluegrass Sports Commission, the Henry Clay Center, and Lexington Strides Ahead.
