W. Jay Christian, MPH, PhD

Dr. W. Jay Christian is an Associate Professor in the Department of Epidemiology and Environmental Health and a faculty member of the Markey Cancer Center. He has graduate degrees in both epidemiology and geography. Dr. Christian’s research experience includes topics such as injury prevention, smoking-related cancers, health disparities in Appalachia, environmental epidemiology, and the built environment and obesity. He primarily contributes to research studies through spatial analysis of health-related data, using geographic information systems (GIS), Global Positioning System (GPS), and spatial statistics. His current research interests are focused on spatial analysis of cancer risk, especially in Appalachia and Kentucky. His work has been supported by a variety of state, federal, and foundation funding sources.
