Meade County had an estimated population of 29,802 in 1999 with 54 percent on public water. The 2008 projected population was 27,043 with 83 percent served by a water utility.In areas not served by public water, about 80 percent of the households use wells and 20 percent use other sources. The Water Resource Development Commission has prepared a report on water-supply infrastructure in Meade County. It is estimated that there are over 200,000 water wells in Kentucky.
