Overview

In the northern half of Barren County, except in the lowlands of Beaver Creek, more than three-quarters of the drilled wells are adequate for a domestic supply. Yields as high as 50 gallons per minute have been reported from wells penetrating large solution channels, which are a common feature in limestone-rich areas such as Barren County. In the southern half of the county, and along the low-lying areas of Beaver Creek, most wells are inadequate for domestic use, except for a few wells in lowland areas bordering streams.

Numerous springs with flows ranging from a few gallons per minute to 2,000 gallons per minute are found in the county. Minimum flows generally occur in early fall, and maximum flows in late winter.
