Overview | ||
About three-quarters of the wells drilled in the uplands of northwestern Allen County, and the lowlands of the southern reaches of Trammel Creek, Barren River, and its major tributaries, yield enough water for a domestic supply; some wells penetrating large solution channels, which are common in limestone-rich areas such as Allen County, yield as much as 50 gallons per minute. In about 80 percent of the county, however, most wells are inadequate for domestic use. Numerous springs with flows ranging from a few gallons per minute to as high as 20,000 gallons per minute are found in the county, predominantly in the limestone beds along the Barren River and its tributaries. |
