The central Kentucky outcrops provide a unique opportunity to study fault-controlled dolomitization and apply this knowledge to similar subsurface dolostone gas reservoirs. Several government and industry participants have provided the necessary funding to conduct this research and we gratefully acknowledge their support.
Primary funding is being provided by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA). Additional industry funding for drilling and coring of the dolostone bodies is being provided by Triana Energy, Inc. The National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) of the U.S. Department of Energy is funding the shallow high-resolution seismic imaging of the dolostone bodies. The Kentucky Geological Survey (KGS) is also funding part of the research costs.

Initial production of 50 million cubic feet of gas per day was reported produced from the Ordovician Trenton Black River interval around 10,200 feet below the surface.
