Patterns at the C-E Junction

This diagram illustrates the relationship of cementum to enamel at the junction of the root with the anatomical crown. There are three possible relationships at the cemento-enamel junction (CEJ). The most common relationship (65%) is an overlapping of the cervical margin of enamel by the cementum. The second most common (25%) is a touching of the enamel margin with the end of the cementum. In the third relationship (10%), dentin is exposed in a gapping fashion. All three of these relationships may be found around the circumference of a single tooth.
