Ground Section of Secondary Cementum

On this image identify secondary cementum (A), primary cementum (B), resting lines (C), Sharpey's fibers (D), Tomes' granular layer (E), dentin (F), and cementocytes (G). Cementoblasts produce collagen which forms part of the matrix of the cementum. The collagen of primary cementum is predominantly extrinsic in nature, with one end anchored in the PDL. Sharpey's fibers are formed by the fibroblasts of the PDL. In secondary cementum a significant portion of the collagen is produced by cementoblasts and as such are considered to be intrinsic fibers.
