(18 of 41) Cross-Section Through Cervix of Tooth This is a ground cross section of a tooth near the cervical margin. The micrograph was taken using trans-mitted light. When the tooth is viewed in cross section, the changes in direction of the dentinal tubules are obvious. They radiate out from the pulp (*) perpendicular to the inner and outer surfaces of the dentin. The S-shaped curvature of the tubule lies at right angles to the cross sectional plane. The inner and outer dark bands (A) observed in this cross-section reflect the inner/outer loops in the S-shaped path of the dentinal tubules. The intermediate light zone (B) represents the dentinal tubules cut obliquely.
