CHE 230
Transformations of Alkenes into Other Functional Groups
Reminder: Markovnikov addition means that the nucleophile adds to the C atom better able to bear a positive charge.
There are four sorts of questions I might ask you about alkene reactions:
- If you treat a given starting material with a given reagent, what are the product(s)?
- What reagents could you use to transform a given starting material into a given product?
- Design a synthesis of a given compound from an alkene.
- Draw a mechanism that accounts for the production of a given product from given starting materials under given conditions.
