Steve Voss joined UK's political science faculty in 1998 after completing his doctoral studies under Gary King at Harvard University. Steve is a specialist in elections and voting behavior, with a focus on racial/ethnic politics. He often teaches graduate methods, an interest that has led to research in a variety of substantive areas as well as to work on ecological inference and on survey methods. Steve's peer-review articles have appeared in various journals, including the American Journal of Political Science and Journal of Politics. He also collaborated with David Lublin at American University to complete the Federal Elections Project, a data-collection effort funded by the National Science Foundation.
A large amount of Steve's time in recent years has been taken up shaping undergraduate education at the University of Kentucky. He has directed the department's undergraduate program since 2004, aside from a year's sabbatical. He sat on the College's Educational Policy Committee during most of that time as well, including a stint as its chair in 2006-2007. He spent a year as Acting Director of UK's American Studies program, and has worked in various service capacities as UK reformed its General Education program. However, Steve will step down from the DUS position after this year so that he can move forward on several research projects.
