CASE tool:

BriefCASE or Visible Analyst (optional with the text ISBN: 0-13-042583-4)

 

 

Objectives:

To develop an appreciation for the strategic values of information systems and the challenges involved in information systems development.  Topics to be included are as follows:

(1)    Basic concepts of information systems analysis and design;

(2)    Critical success factors of a system analyst;

(3)    System development approaches. This includes SDLC, OOAD, RAD;

(4)    Issues involved in implementing and maintaining information systems;  

(5)    Hands-on experience with a CASE tool (BriefCASE or Visible Analyst) for the planning, analysis and design phases of systems development;

(6)  Hands-on experience with Access 2002 for systems implementation.

 

 

Assignments:

There will be assignments involving the use of the CASE tool, Access 2002, written assignments and a group project.  Details of these assignments will be announced in class with at least one week's notice.

 

 

Late Policy:

Assignments submitted after the due date will be penalized 10% per day.

 

 

Quizzes:

To encourage student preparedness, attendance, attention, and participation, a total of 10 concept quizzes will be given during the semester, each marked on a scale of 10, with a guaranteed minimum of 5 awarded for merely being present. Of the 10 quizzes, only the best 8 will count. There will be no "make-up" quizzes, for any reason. 

 

 

Exams:

There will be one final exam.
