CASE 1 (Due: May 27th, 2003 at 10:00am)

 

1.       Create a folder on your computer/diskette (if you are in the lab, create this folder in the D: drive) called ####HW1 where #### is the last four digits of your student number.

2.       Create another folder on your computer/diskette (if you are in the lab, create this folder in the D: drive) called xxxx where xxxx is your full name.

If you have the CD that comes with your HTML text, then:

3.       Insert the CD that comes with your HTML text in the CD-ROM drive.

4.       Open the readme.htm file from the CD and click the Data Files link then the Level II Data Files link.

5.       Save the file 10113-xd.exe onto the folder bearing your full name (i.e., folder xxxx).

6.       Double click the file 10113-xd.exe and unzip the files onto the folder xxxx.

If you do not have the CD that comes with your HTML text, then:

3.       Start your browser and enter the URL http://www.course.com/catalog/downloads.cfm?isbn=0-619-10114-8

4.       Click the Data Files (HTML Tutorial 1-9) link.

5.       Save the file 10114-8d1.exe onto the folder bearing your full name (i.e., folder xxxx).

6.       Double click the file 10114-8d1.exe and unzip the files onto the folder xxxx.

 

If your last name starts with A-D, then do these:

7.       Double click the Tutorial.05 folder from the folder xxxx.

8.       Copy the folder case1 from the folder xxxx onto the folder bearing your student number (i.e., folder ####HW1).

9.       Using your text editor, open dcctxt.htm from the ####HW1\case1 folder and save it as dcc.htm.  Change the title of the Web page to "xxxx's Doc-Centric Yearly Sales Report ", where xxxx is your full name.

10.   Complete tasks 2-5, 7, 8, 10, and 11 of case 1 on pg.5.39 of your HTML text.  Make sure that all your works are saved in the folder ####HW1.

11.   Trace the series of hyperlinks and framed pages in this case problem and create a diagram showing how all of the files are connected.  Print a copy of the diagram.  An example of such diagram can be viewed from: http://www.uky.edu/~dsianita/390/case1.gif

12.   Create a table of content page that includes hyperlinks to sales reports in different regions.  Save this page as dcctoc.htm in your ####HW1 folder.

13.   Create a file named dccnf.htm in your ####HW1 folder that consolidates the logo page, table of contents page, and sales report pages into a single page, using tables, i.e., create a version of your page that does not use frames nor image map.

14.   Turn in BOTH your diagram and your ####HW1 folder (see instructions below).

 

 

If your last name starts with E-Z, then do these:

7.       Double click the Tutorial.05 folder from the folder xxxx.

8.       Copy the folder case2 from the folder xxxx onto the folder bearing your student number (i.e., folder ####HW1).

9.       Using your text editor, open listtxt.htm from the ####HW1\case2 folder and save it as listing.htm.  Change the title of the Web page to "xxxx's Listing 20481", where xxxx is your full name.

10.   Complete tasks 2-7 of case 2 on pg.5.41 of your HTML text.  Make sure that all your works are saved in the folder ####HW1.

11.   Trace the code for the series of hyperlinks and framed pages in this case problem and create a diagram showing how all of the files are connected.  Print a copy of the diagram.  An example of such diagram can be viewed from: http://www.uky.edu/~dsianita/390/case1.gif

12.   Create a file named listingnf.htm in your ####HW1 folder that allows the viewing of the 13 photos using tables , i.e., create a version of your page that does not use frames nor image map. 

13.   Turn in BOTH your diagram and your ####HW1 folder (see instructions below).

 

NOTE: 

       Copy the folder ####HW1 to my homework folder on our BEIC server:

·         Locate the homework folder by clicking the following icons:

       UK_Class ŕ B&E ŕ DIS320 ŕ Leepost ŕ Homework

·         Locate your folder ####HW1 from your diskette or your locker account

·         Drag your folder ####HW1 to the Homework window

       It is considered late if I do not receive your work by 2pm on the day it is due,

       Late penalty is 10% per day,

       It is each student’s responsibility to ensure a functional and clearly labeled copy has been submitted before the beginning of class on the due day,

       It is an individual work (i.e., no copying from others or group work).
