Kimberly Scott McCann
Kimberly S. McCann is a partner in the law firm of VanAntwerp Attorneys, LLP, in Ashland, Kentucky. Kim’s practice focuses on representing manufacturers and other companies in business matters, including business organization, real estate, banking, lending, tax, economic development, energy issues, oil and gas, franchises, and government relations. She also advises school districts in the Commonwealth on education issues. She has litigated business, mineral rights, and real estate matters throughout eastern Kentucky and before the Kentucky Court of Appeals and Supreme Court of Kentucky. In the government relations and regulatory arena, Kim advises business clients on transportation, tax audit resolution, economic development, administrative procedures, permitting, energy, utility, environmental, and labor matters.
After graduating from Eastern Kentucky University with a Bachelor of Science, Kim earned her juris doctorate from the University of Kentucky’s, College of Law in 1986. She is a member of the Kentucky and Ohio bar associations and a former chair of the Kentucky Bar Association CLE Commission. She currently serves on the Kentucky Supreme Court Rules Committee.
Kim is Chairman of the Executive Board for Shaping Our Appalachian Region (SOAR) and the King’s Daughters Health Foundation Board. She has served as Special Justice for the Kentucky Supreme Court and in 1999 was named one of 40 leaders in Kentucky under 40 for the Leaders of the New Century. She is currently a member of the Ashland Area YMCA Board of Directors, where she has served as chair and has been a member of the Ashland Rotary Club since 1994. She has also been a member of the Board of Directors for Lawyers Mutual Insurance Company of Kentucky; Northeast Kentucky United Way, where she served as chair; and the Foundation for the Tri-State Community.
Kim has been active in community service and is an active advocate for the arts and her community. She has served on the Board of Directors for the Paramount Arts Center in Ashland and also served as its President. She has received the United Way of Northeastern Kentucky Volunteer Award. In 2009, she was named Northeast Kentucky’s Legal Services Advocate of the Year, and previously served on the King's Daughters Medical Center Board. She has served as a member of the Leadership Kentucky Board of Directors and was a member of the Leadership Kentucky class of 1995.
