Horse barns contain a variety of respiratory toxins, such as Beta Glucans, endotoxins, horse hair, danger, and organize dust constituents which may pose a hazard to the respiratory health of horse workers. Research examining particulate concentrations and associated environmental factors on thoroughbred horse farms may yield important insights for promoting worker health. We propose a pilot study aimed at quantifying a broad range of particulate diameter concentrations, in addition to endotoxin concentrations, from air samples collected on thoroughbred horse barns. We will also examine environmental factors that may influence particle and endotoxin concentrations.
