Take the first step toward helping others with mental health.  

The Undergraduate Certificate in Structurally Responsive Mental Health Care introduces students to professional skills that help enhance mental health for clients and communities. Students in this program learn how to build effective relationships with a diverse group of people.

 

Skills you will gain by completing this undergraduate certificate are:

  • Establish and maintain effective helping relationships
  • Apply active listening skills (e.g., restatements, empathetic reflections, challenges) and theories of behavioral change to help others achieve enhanced wellness
  • Analyze how structural forces influence access to mental health and belonging across a wide range of communities
  • Communicate effectively with audiences and individuals from different backgrounds and cultures

 

Admission in this program requires admission to the University of Kentucky as an undergraduate student. The certificate is  in the College of Education in the Department of Educational, School, and Counseling Psychology. 

 

What can I do with this undergraduate certificate?

This certificate will help students prepare for careers in the health, helping, education, and wellness professions. The hands-on training will sharpen the key soft skills (e.g., interpersonal communication, problem solving, listening, empathy, cultural intelligence) in high demand across business and industry.
