The Visual Studies Minor offers a more broadly based curriculum than that covered by traditional Art History, reaching into everyday life and popular culture to deal with all aspects of visual communication.
Careers
Ours is a visual culture. Workplaces today are visually saturated envronments. We spend our free time consuming visual media through films, television, and the internet. Knowledge is increasingly communicated visually. The Visual Studies Minor curriculum teaches critical viewing skills to prepare students to successfully interpret and navigate the visual complexity of the 21st century, both inside and outside the workplace. Students from any college may choose to minor in Visual Studies.

What You'll Study
This minor offer students a broad interdisciplinary selection of courses and methodologies from the arts, design, humanities and social sciences. In Visual Studies courses, students examine the production and consumption of images, objects and events in diverse cultures and within a global context. No more then four courses may be from Art History & Visual Studies (A-H prefix). At least two courses must be at the 300-level or above. Students may complete the minor with a selection of courses from Art Studio, Anthropology, Architecture, Classics, Communications, English, History, Interior Design, Integrated Strategic Communication, Journalism, Landscape Architecture, Mass Media Studies, and foreign languages.
