The Department of Kinesiology and Health Promotion offers graduate work leading to the Master of Science and Doctor of Education degrees. The Master of Science degree offers concentrations in biomechanics, exercise physiology, health promotion, physical education and sport leadership. The Ed.D. degree has concentrations in health promotion and in physical education. 

Master of Science (MS) in Kinesiology & Health Promotion 

The master’s program is designed to provide a high-quality graduate program for students who desire advanced study to enhance their professional knowledge and skills as well as for students who complete the master’s degree as an intermediate step toward doctoral work.

    • Submit a statement of your professional aspirations and explain how you believe graduate study at the University of Kentucky will enhance your ability to achieve those professional goals. In your statement, provide information about your background; research skills and experiences; personal and professional achievements; and educational, work or life experiences that influenced you and your life goals.

  4. Three letters of recommendation

The GRE is not required for admission to this program.

Applicants must meet the Graduate School admission requirements.

APPLICATION DEADLINES

Fall: For graduate teaching assistantship consideration, January 15; otherwise, applications are due no later than one month prior to the start of the term that you intend to begin graduate work.

 

Doctor of Education (EdD) in Kinesiology & Health Promotion

The Ed.D. program in Kinesiology and Health Promotion provides advanced study for those who seek careers in educational, industrial or other appropriate settings. Admission to the program requires a master’s degree. Course work is planned by members of the student’s advisory committee based on their assessment of the student’s background and professional goals. All programs include course work within and outside the department. Additional information about the Ed.D. can be obtained from the Director of Graduate Studies.

    • Submit a statement of your professional aspirations and explain how you believe graduate study at the University of Kentucky will enhance your ability to achieve those professional goals. In your statement, provide information about your background; research skills and experiences; personal and professional achievements; and educational, work or life experiences that influenced you and your life goals.
  3. Writing Sample
    • ​Acceptable examples of writing samples include: one chapter from a thesis; research paper from a graduate class; a literature review or project from a graduate class; special circumstances for other examples of writing will be considered at the discretion of the applicant's designated potential advisor.
  4. Assistantship Application (optional - you may upload a blank document, if you do not intend to apply for assistance)
  5. Three letters of recommendation
    • Letters should be from persons who can assess the applicant’s academic capabilities and/or work experiences and habits as a supervisor. Recommenders should address the applicant’s ability to complete a doctoral program and ability to plan, initiate and complete a research project. We will not accept letters from friends and fellow workers.
