National Wetlands Inventory Maps (scale 1:24,000). Published by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, these maps show categorized wetland areas. The base is the U.S.G.S. 7.5-minute topographic quadrangle map. Available from KGS as georeferenced scanned images in Kentucky State Plane Single Zone coordinates (NAD83) or hard copy plots of scanned image.
Wetlands maps in the Kentucky Single Zone are available in MrSid format for download. Each wetlands SID image has an associated "world" file (*.sdw). These files assist in georeferencing the image in Kentucky Single Zone State Plane Coordinates when using certain GIS and CAD packages. World files can be downloaded individually from the ftp site, or you can download all wetlands sdw files in the wetlandsdw.zip file.
A chart, Key to Wetlands Symbols, is available in pdf format.
Some NWI maps have been converted to Geographic Information System (GIS) format and can be downloaded from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Web site. They are available in UTM (NAD27) coordinates and are being converted to State Plane (NAD83) versions.
The Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Service has prepared the same data in county-wide GIS export files. They can be downloaded from their ftp site by selecting the KFWIS FTP Site link on the following web page: http://www.kfwis.state.ky.us/.
For both digital products, the files are in ArcInfo export format (E00) and must be converted to ArcInfo coverages for use in supported software products. ArcInfo users can use the 'Import' command and ArcView users can use the stand-alone 'Import71' program for this conversion. Explanations for GIS coverage attribute codes are available as a separate download from the NWI website.
Landslides and Related Features (scale 1:24,000). These 7.5-minute quadrangle maps depict generalized slope-stability conditions as they existed at the time of field checking (1977 to 1979). They are available for most of southeastern and south-central Kentucky. Mapped units depict the dominant stability conditions within delineated areas. These are preliminary maps and are suited for general planning purposes only.
Landslide Potential maps have been scanned and geo-referenced to the Kentucky Single-Zone projection, and are available for download MrSid format. Each landslide SID image has an associated "world" file (*.sdw). These files assist in georeferencing the image in Kentucky Single Zone State Plane Coordinates when using certain GIS and CAD packages. World files can be downloaded individually from the ftp site, or you can download all landslide potential sdw files in the landslidesdw.zip file.
