Assessment and Regulation of Sexual Behavior in Beef Bulls
K.K. Schillo, W.J. Silvia
Department of Animal and Food Sciences
Project Description
The importance of sexual behavior in overall fertility of beef herds is unknown. However, it is likely that management of bulls to enhance sexual interactions with heifers and cows would have a positive impact on pregnancy rate. During the past year, no work has been done to address the goals and objectives of this project.
Impact
In light of the current economic climate, efforts to increase reproductive performance of beef cattle are not likely to have much impact on overall profitability of beef production. The high price of fuel and feed will most likely offset the minor improvements in production efficiency that can be attributed to enhanced reproductive performance.
