Foliar Black Shank
Black
shank can occasionally bypass root resistance in a variety by splashing onto
a leaf. In May of
2004 heavy rains in Wayne County splashed black shank spores onto leaves causing
the characteristic
dull brown spot with a darker outer ring. Numerous spots were found in the
same field. The second
picture was taken years earlier in Adair County after a similar incident.
