PRUNING:
Prune in late winter.

Avoid continual shearing; this creates a dense outer layer of foliage that shades and kills inner foliage.  Shearing also damages foliage to produce unsightly browning.  Prune selected branches by hand to allow some light penetration and to control the general shape.
