Responsibilities: The Chair serves as the administrative officer and program leader for the Department of Entomology, reporting directly to the Dean of the College of Agriculture. The successful candidate will be expected to provide direction and leadership and to administer, coordinate, and foster excellence in the Department's academic programs, extension education and research. The Chair works with the Entomology faculty, staff, students, and personnel from other departments in the College of Agriculture and the University's system, as well as University administration, national and international professional associations, and clientele. The Chair articulates a clear vision for the Department and works with stakeholders to develop and implement strategic plans for the advancement of its programs. The Chair serves as the State Entomologist with associated regulatory responsibilities.
Qualifications: Applicants must hold a Ph.D degree in Entomology or a closely related discipline and show evidence of leadership ability to promote the continued development and the recognition of excellence in teaching, research, extension and regulatory programs. Candidates must have a clear understanding of the Land Grant University mission and a broad vision of Entomology's role within the system. Administrative experience and/or evidence of potential for effective administration and communication; a national reputation for excellence in research, teaching, and/or extension; and strong leadership, organizational and inter-personal skills are also expected. Applicants must also meet qualifications for immediate tenure in the Department.
Department: The Department of Entomology has 16 faculty, 3 adjunct faculty, 5 research or extension specialists, 20 staff, and 32 graduate students. The Department's faculty has received national and international recognition and has a history of excellence in teaching, research, and extension. Salary: Salary is open and competitive. A 403-B retirement plan and group health and life insurance are available.
