PROFESSIONAL EMPLOYMENT

Research Assistant

(Feb 2001-present) Entomology Department, UK

Assist graduate students with research projects in turf and landscape entomology. Various research projects include calico scale on woody ornamentals, insecticide efficacy tests, rose variety tests for Japanese beetle resistance, typhia parasitoid as a means of controlling white grubs, and evaluating the use of companion planting as a deterrence for Japanese beetles.

Research Assistant

(May 2000- Jan 2001) Biology Department, UK

Assisted Dr. Hong Y. Yan and Dr. Tim Sparkes with research on condition-dependent acoustics signals in a vocalizing fish.  Responsibilities included running experimental trials, recording and analyzing data, and general care of fish.

Research Assistant

(Jan 1997-Aug1997) Animal Sciences Department, UK

Assisted Dr. Debbie Powell with research on equine nutrition and exercise. Responsibilities included care of horses, barn maintenance, exercising of horses, and assisting in blood work of research horses.

COMPETITIVE GRANTS

UK Nursery Industries Endowment Grant, 2001. Is companion planting a strategy for protecting roses against Japanese beetles? Awarded: $1500.00. Authors: Philip Gonsiska, Callie Prater, David Held, and Daniel Potter.
