Be a Part of the Effort to Eradicate Malaria!

Every 30 seconds, a child dies from Malaria contributing to the one million deaths caused by this disease every year!!  (WHO)

What is Malaria?

Malaria is a human disease caused by Plasmodium spp. Parasites which are vectored by mosquitoes in the genus Anopheles.  Malaria occurs in many parts of the world, but is most prevalent in sub-Saharan Africa.

What can be done?

During the 2009 Annual Meeting of the American Mosquito Control Association, immediate Past-President Major Dhillon proclaimed that Malaria will be eradicated in the next 20 years!  This is quite an ambitious goal that has been set.

The Public Heath Entomology Lab University of Kentucky is striving to meet this goal, but we need your help!

One of the best current ways to control the future spread of this disease is prevention through the use of long-lasting treated bed nets in areas where the disease is prevalent.

Bed nets are effective, easy to use, easy to distribute to the people who need them, and best of all, very cheap!  For only ten US dollars, the lives of African families can be improved and saved.

How you can help!
