The new year commenced with our annual Block and Bridle summer picnic. As always the summer picnic was greatly enjoyed by all members. For the first time invitations were sent to incoming freshmen, as a result the attendance for the summer picnic was higher than usual. This was a very progressive year for the WKU Block and Bridle, due in part to the largest new member drive on record. This was accomplished by a highly successful recruitment week which began the second week of the semester. This event lasted the entire week with activities occurring each night, during this week we had 42 new members join. In October the Western Kentucky Wood Expo was held in the L.D. Brown Agricultural Exposition Center. This proved to be the major fundraiser for Bock and Bridle this year. Block and Bridle served food and drinks to approximately 10,000 people in attendance during the two day event. In January, 30 members attended the 78th national Convention held in Denver, Colorado hosted by CSU, and held during the National Western Livestock Show and Rodeo. The WKU Block and Bridle chapter was fortunate enough to win the services of Baxter Black for an evening, all the members were very excited about Baxter coming to WKU. In February Block and Bridle presented a program to the Warren County Chamber of Commerce. The program was aimed at trying to bridge the gap between urban and rural understanding of agriculture. This event was very successful and we had many members that participated. Our major event for the year was Little North American, this week long event was a huge success. During the week long event; fitting clinics, a barnyard rodeo, showmanship contests, and our annual banquet were held. At the annual Block and Bridle banquet winners of the showmanship contest, and other club awards were presented. The WKU Block and Bridle Club had a very progressive year and is poised to have a more productive upcoming year.
