1997/1998 Abstract
University of Nebraska

The Block and Bridle worked with campus activities to sponsor a dance called the Prairie Stomp during the first week of the fall semester. The club's fall and spring Kids Day attracted over 1,500 local children to the animal science building to see and learn a little bit about animal agriculture. The regional meeting at Nebraska was canceled because of a late October snow storm; unfortunately it could not be rescheduled. The club's Little Ak-Sar-Ben livestock showmanship contest was held in the fall - 70 students participated. The final activity for the fall was a Christmas luncheon for all faculty, staff and students sponsored by the Block and Bridle Club.

Twelve Block and Bridle members attended the National Block and Bridle meeting and the National Western Livestock show in Denver, Colorado. The Big Red Beef Progress show was held on March 29th and attracted beef producers from all parts of Nebraska. The meat portion of the Little MEAC was held in the spring attracting 100 students.

Fund raising activities included hat sales throughout the year, balloon sales during Nebraska home football games, and tabulation of data for the State FFA livestock and management contests.

The chapter yearbook was completed for our final yearly activity, the Block and Bridle Honors Banquet, where Robert Volk, livestockman and friend to youth, was our honoree. This was attended by 150 students, faculty and parents.

All in all the 1997-98 year was a successful and fun year.
