2000/2001 Abstract
University of Idaho

Fall 2000 Block and Bridle Happenings: This year began with our first meeting on September 5, 2000. There were 40 people present, a great turnout. Our first activity was helping to get everything ready for the College of Agriculture's welcome back picnic on September 7th. Later in the month, we helped show some of the University's cattle at the Spokane and Yakima bull sales. September 29-30 was Ag Days on the University of Idaho campus. The club had a food booth in the Ag Days food fair on the 29th. We sold hamburgers and Vandal dogs among other things. Many of the members also attended a panel discussion with UI faculty members about biotechnology later in the day. The night ended with a street dance with music provided by Coltrain. The next morning, we held our annual judging contest that draws students from all of Idaho and the surrounding area. Despite the rainy weather that day, we had a very good turnout. We held our Little International show on November 12th. We had a lot of beef showman, both novice and advanced, and a few swine, horse, dairy, goat, and sheep competitors. Those individuals that planned to attend Nationals were busy raising funds for the trip as the semester wore down. We finished the semester off with a College of Ag fun night that included horseshoes, volleyball, and other fun games.

Spring 2001 Block and Bridle Happenings: The six members that attended National Convention returned with many new ideas on how to better our club and gave a great slide presentation about all of the places that they visited. In mid-February, we attended the Spokane bull sale and showed and sold a bull of our own. On April 21, 2001, we held our second annual fitting clinic. This clinic is our yearly community service project and we invite area 4-Her's to come and learn proper fitting and showing etiquette and the appropriate equipment to use. Our clinic went very well even though we had a small turnout. Our last event of the year was to plan the College of Agriculture Animal and Veterinary Science Department end of the year picnic on May 4th to celebrate the end of the school year. We had quite a few people attend and had a good time playing volleyball and baseball and just enjoying each others company. At our last meeting of the year, we elected new officers, and they are already busy planning for next year!
