Mississippi Sate University’s Block and Bridle Club began the
year in August with a Welcome back meeting and pizza party to attract new
members and bring back old ones. Next on the list in September was our famous
pledge cookout. We took all the new folks on a tour of our farms, and ended with
a hamburger cookout at the beef unit. We started October with a big outing to
the Mississippi State Fair held in Jackson. Here we helped direct traffic and
park trailers for the people exhibiting livestock. Also outlining October was
our club’s first annual Pig Pickin’. We smoked a whole hog and appreciated some
down time and socializing before midterms. October also brought the Pledge Sale,
a chance to make a little money for the club and embarrass the new guys as well!
For Halloween we held our annual Halloween on the Farm. This event provides a
hayride and haunted house on the farm for the public. This year we also had a
Halloween Hoe-down where we dressed up in costumes and danced the night away.
During November we held the Little International Livestock Show and Pledge
Initiation at the Chapel of Memories. In December the officers of our club were
invited to the Bourgeois Ball, a campus wide social charity event hosted by the
MSU campus activity board. The New Year began before we knew it, with our
Bulldog Stampede Collegiate Rodeo, Dixie National Livestock Judging Contest, and
The B&B National Convention all in February we were very hard at work. Things
slowed down a bit in March and we were able to have a spring fiesta formal,
which was entitled “Cowboys & Senoritas.” Our B&B Awards Banquet, where our new
officers were inducted, was held in April along with our annual crawfish boil.
The month and fantastic year came to an end with the new tradition of the steak
soiree’.
