In April of 2001, the Clemson University Block and
Bridle Club elected a group of enthusiastic students to act as leaders of the
53-member group.
All of these students were busy all summer getting
ready for the up coming year. In August we fired up the year with our first
meeting, the Welcome Back Cookout, and the First Friday Parade. As September
approached, we began working on our ham sales fund-raiser. Almost eighty
percent of the club helped nightly to get the hams ready to be sold.
In October we participated in the Ag and Bio
Council’s fall festival. We set up roping stations and many club members
acted like steers needing to be roped. We also took a trip with the Poultry
Science Club to a local haunted house.
As November passed and final exams came to say
hello in December, everyone was looking forward to the annual Christmas
banquet. Everyone had a good time and a few club members were daring enough to
ride the mechanical bull. We also participated in the Clemson Christmas
parade.
When everyone got back from Christmas break it was
time to get busy. Every year our club helps the freshman taking AVS 108 break
their assigned beef heifers for the Little North American Livestock Show that
we hold in April. It is a lot of work but it is a great way to get new
initiates.
We also took our annual Ag-Tour to Saluda, South
Carolina were we all made some unforgettable memories. About fifteen members
went and they all had a great time.
Most of our spring semester was spent preparing
for the Little North American Livestock Show in April. The show was a success
and everyone had such a good time that they forgot about how much work they
had put into this event.
As our year wound down we participated in the
Ag-Olympics and the Down on the Farm Party where the Pre-Vet Club brought out
their dunking booth so that everyone could get a chance to cool off. We
elected a new roster of officers at our end of the year banquet and danced the
night away.
Overall, we ended the school year with nineteen
initiates, lots of memories, and lifelong friendships.
