Welcome to the Plant Biochemical Genetics and Lipid Metabolism Lab
at the University of Kentucky

Facilities and Equipment

All equipment necessary for the proposed research activities are available in the laboratory of D. Hildebrand or in that of collaborator T. Hamilton-Kemp or in adjacent labs.  Equipment available in the PIs' lab include:

  • extensive electrophoretic gel boxes and power supplies [photos:  1, 2]
  • gel dryers
  • thermal cyclers for PCR [photos:  1, 2]
  • a laser densitometer
  • microfuges
  • a high speed refrigerated centrifuge
  • a bench-top ultracentrifuge
  • UV-Vis spectrophotometers [photos:  1, 2, 3, 4]
  • fraction collectors (one with UV monitor) [photos:  1, 2]
  • water baths [photos:  1, 2] & flash evaporator, and
  • pumps
Also in the PI's lab are an FPLC and GC with autosampling capability.  Another GC with an automated thermal desorber is available in the lab of T. Hamilton-Kemp.  A laminar flow hood, several shakers including one with temperature-control and a greenhouse are also available for this work.  Shared equipment in adjacent labs include scintillation counters, additional ultracentrifuges, GC-MS systems, EM Suite with scanning and transmission electron microscopes, a Dupont Particle Delivery Device and oligonucleotide and oligopeptide synthesis facilities.  Additional HPLCs and GCs are available.
