ABOUT ME

I received my Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Wayne State University, with an internship at Sinai Hospital of Detroit, in 1986. Since 1989, I have been a faculty member here at the University of Kentucky. I am currently a Full Professor and the Director of the Clinical Psychology Training Program. I have two main programs of research. The first concerns what is called validity theory, which is concerned with how we determine the accuracy or validity of psychological theories. The second concerns risk for alcoholism, risk for eating disorders, and risk for pathological gambling. To study these risk processes, I seek to develop theories that integrate the roles of genetics, personality, learning, and culture in understanding risk.
