Nancy Clauter

Nancy Clauter is Assistant Professor of Oboe at the University of Kentucky, where she also teaches music theory. Ms. Clauter holds degrees from Arizona State University and the University of Arizona, and is currently completing her Doctor of Musical Arts degree at Arizona State University where she studies with Martin Schuring. As a founding member of the Quintessence Wind Quintet, Nancy performed throughout the United States, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and Germany during her fifteen years with the quintet. In addition, Quintessence performed as soloists with the Whitefish (Montana) Symphony and the Flagstaff (Arizona) Symphony, on broadcasts for National Public Radio, and as artists in residence at the Bay View Music Festival. Prior to her appointment at the University of Kentucky, Ms. Clauter taught at Luther College and at Grand Canyon University. This past summer Nancy was the Principal Oboist at the 1999 Classical Music Festival in Eisenstadt, Austria and performed several concerts in eastern Austria. She is also completing research on the chirimía, a oboe relative common in Central and South America; some of her research is published in the Vol. 22, No. 2 of The Double Reed titled "The Traditions of the Chirmía, Uncovering the past through re-creation".
