Evidences suggest that subtype-selective nicotinic acetylcholine receptor antagonists may find utilization as efficacious tobacco use cessation agents. The overall objective of my current project is to focus on the design and synthesis of novel neuronal nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR) ligands in order to identify antagonist that have high affinity and selectivity for nAChR subtypes. Such an agent may have potential not only as tobacco use cessation with therapeutic advantage over current available therapies but also as a treatment for Alzheimer and many other central nervous system disorders.
