Mesogastropoda

The Gastrodpods of order Mesogastropoda are found from the Ordivician to the Holocene. And though these are difficult to identify in any categories more specific than their order they are none-the-less impressive steinkerns (internal molds) of once living animals. These snails could have been marine or freshwater creatures but becasue the unit of rock they were found in is considered limestone they are undoubtedly marine in origin. It is easy to see by these three specimens that some snails preferred to whorl their shells vertically and some horizontally.
