Karst Atlas of Kentucky: Karst Groundwater Basin Maps
This project will produce map at a scale of 1:100,000 depicting karst features and hazards in each of the 30 X 60 minute quadrangles that are underlain by signficant areas of carbonate rocks. Maps in the atlas will depict groundwater basins, sinkholes prone to flooding, and the potential for the development of cover-collapse sinkholes. So far, only karst ground-water basin maps are in production. Funding for producing the maps has been obtained indirectly through grants supporting related work and through KGS. Each map is being developed in cooperation with Joe Ray of the Kentucky Division of Water.
Karst ground-water basin maps for the following quadrangles have been completed. These maps can be downloaded as PDF files or ordered through the KGS Publication Sales office.
